I’m a bunch of things. Television host. Relationship expert. Television showrunner and creator. Mom. Wife. Stepmom. Writer. Hobby Tradwife. Friend. Don’t make me put them in order! But underneath it all? I’m devoted to the practice of exploring relationships, and self, and how to love ourselves and others more and better. Relationships are a spiritual path. They teach us who we are, and make us who we are. They can set us free. If we let them.

Family or Fiancé

Since 2018, I have hosted a relationship reality show on OWN and Discovery+ called Family or Fiance. It’s about people who want to get married, but their families are against it. Everyone moves into a fancy house for three days and we WORK IT OUT! I am the relationship coach who walks the couple through the process of making peace – and it’s (almost) always it’s about how the past is impacting the present. Let me tell you, there is never a dull moment! But it is deep, and heartfelt, and real. They say you teach what you need to learn – and it’s true.

Unprisoned

I write scripted television. There is no better job in the world!!! For 18 years, I’ve worked on all kinds of shows – everything from cop dramas to Mad Men, to United States of Tara, to Marvel’s Runaways. So many shows! I think 11 in all. Collaborating with actors and directors and writers and crews is a great gift and I’m the luckiest that I get to do it.

In 2022, I created a show based on my life called Unprisoned, starring (honestly unbelievable actors) Kerry Washington and Delroy Lindo. It’s about a woman (a foster child) whose dad was in and out of prison her whole life (like my dad was) and how that affected her relationships. All of them. We did two seasons on Hulu/Onyx and it was a privilege and a joy. (And also super hard!) Kerry and Delroy and the whole cast is STELLAR. I meannnnn.
